New Year's Message
2009 was a tough year for business but as the New Year comes in I have great hopes for 2010. If you want more success in the coming year spend the next five minutes reading my New Year’s Message.
If you are in business you can have the advantage over your competitors, and if you are employed you can be guaranteed advancement and a raise in 2010.
The secret to achieving this is in what you now decide to do and have in 2010. Write down your goals and define what it is that you want from the coming year. It does not matter if you know how to get what you want it is enough, for now, to just know what it is and have that clearly described.
Don’t be vague, be specific and exact – if you want wealth write an amount; if you want a job write down what it is; and if you want your business to expand write down by how much.
Aim high but also remember that all these goals can be surpassed so you are not limited to them but aim to achieve them or more.
This form of action is described in “The Secret” and “The Attractor Factor” and many other programs and books and I know may people who have tried these systems and failed. They say that this system does not work and that it is hocus pocus or nonsense – NOT TRUE.
The thing to realise is that writing down your goals alone will not achieve them and you cannot just use the power of the mind to get what you want. The key, or true secret, is Action; without taking action nothing will happen and your goals will be no nearer.
Action is no good without goals because you may be headed in the wrong direction and goals are no good without action because they will not appear from nothing. Remember that a straight line is the quickest way to anything so avoid distraction and go straight for your goals.
1. Review your goals daily This is essential; remind yourself what you are aiming for and focus on it. This is best done first thing in the morning and last thing at night.
Top tip is to start each day with a positive action – when you get to work be full of ideas and do not open your emails. Email is a wonderful tool but can be distracting so avoid having your emails come in live; just check them every 2 or 3 hours and, if you can, don’t look at them until at least mid morning each day. This way you can focus on important work and getting closer to your goals; first thing in the morning when you are fresh and focused you can achieve more than in all the rest of the day.
2. Take action towards your goalsIt is all well and good looking at your goals day and night but without taking action towards them you are unlikely to achieve much. This is the key and the point of having goals – so that every step you take, no matter how small, will be in the right direction and get you closer to what you desire.
3. Be open to suggestion I often set goals without really knowing how I will achieve them but I have a focus and belief in my ability and I leave my mind open to suggestion.
At all times be open to ideas and suggestions that appear to you and act on them if they will benefit you or your business. Missed opportunities are lost forever so take action when you are presented with the chance to benefit.
Warning; don’t get distracted. It is too easy too see an opportunity and charge off after it and thus forsake your goals. I have been guilty of this in 2009 and I am determined to stay totally focused in 2010. Only do things that will lead you closer to your ultimate goal.
In business only spend money that will make you money or get you closer to what you want – only spend time in the pursuit of what you want. Be open to ideas while at the same time keep your focus.
4. Setbacks and failure are lessons to be learned and will be overcome
Don’t let a failure or loss deter you – just because you fail today does not mean that you will fail again tomorrow.
If a mountaineer fails to reach the peak he may try again the next day; or perhaps leave, re-form his group and come back better prepared the next time.
What may seem like total failure is only that if you let it be; if you decide that it is just temporary – no matter what it is, you will get the better of it and can go on to great success.
The important thing is to learn from mistakes and never to repeat them; from the ashes of disaster grow the roses of success!
5. Never stop, never falter, keep your focus and believeBelieve that you can and you will. As I have discussed; belief alone is not enough, but combine it with focused activity and you will go on to achieve whatever you set out to do.
If you believe in your ability to achieve your goals and you follow that with focused and continued effort you will get to where you want to be and achieve all that you desire.

What do you need to succeed?
Having read many books on success and biographies of entrepreneurs I can conclude that there are a few things that seem to be true in most stories of success.
Firstly that people who succeed have belief in themselves and are determined to succeed to the point that they preserver, often against the odds.
Secondly that success is often disguised as failure; by this I mean that often in someone’s story it was from the ashes of disaster that grew the roses of success (to borrow from a certain film).
Never give up – Always look for opportunity – Failure is only temporary and success is just around the corner.
