Old Communicators

Becoming a New Communicator
New communicators come out where we can see them; they do not hide behind lecterns. They command the stage and engage the audience. Lots of animation, eye contact aplenty and smiles as needed.
People who still think that they should deliver a speech in a dry tone with just the facts should be confined to university lecture halls. And even there I am sure they would not be popular.
When you stand before a group what is your purpose? What are you trying to achieve? Is it to convert the listeners to your Point Of View (POV)? Or is it just to impart facts. If it is facts then the written word is much more effective.
If you want to get a point across speak from the heart. Speak with passion and authority. Know your subject but speak freely without a script. Notes are fine to help guide you but a written speech cannot possibly hope to get the feeling needed to convert an audience to your POV effectively.
You don’t need to memorise a speech but you do need to know your subject and have passion about it.
I teach people top present in the new communicator style. Speaking with authority to persuade the audience. Whether your audience is one C-level executive or a large group the same principals apply.
Below is a list of 8 things to consider when speaking in public. And by public I mean from 1 to the multitude – its all public speaking and if you want to have influence you must master the complete list...
1. Dress and Appearance
2. Posture and Movement
3. Gestures and facial Expression
4. Eye Communication
5. Voice and Tone
6. Jargon and Non-words
7. Content
8. Enhancements
